The special select committee to review the emission trading scheme has refused to hear the submission by Pastural Farming Climate Research Inc. They site the number of submissions as being the reason. 278 submissions were received of which just over half asked to be heard by the committee as did we. That means about 140 submissions which at 10 minutes per submission being the time allocated  for each would only involve 23 hours to hear the submissions. The committee sits each Thursday and does not report back until September so I would think they could have found the 23 hours they needed. ...

New Zealand’s Emission Trading Scheme was devised to comply with the Kyoto Protocol. The Kyoto Protocol was devised to combat global warming. The idea is that a country’s carbon emissions are measured, or guessed, in line with clear rules laid out in the Kyoto agreement. If that country emits more carbon than it did in 1990 it pays a penalty to another country that emits less carbon than it did in 1990.           Pastural Farming Climate Research was launched at the Northland Agricultural Field Days on the 27th February.2009. The society was formed to counter the misinformation about agricultural emissions and the incorrect and unsubstantiated assumptions that blame livestock methane emissions for global warming. At his site at the field days Robin Grieve the chairman of the society received strong support from the farmers that visited the site.
